CSSCT: raising awareness of its role to strengthen prevention

The Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CSSCT) is a key player in workplace risk prevention. However, its role sometimes remains invisible or insufficiently understood by employees.

Promoting its missions and communicating better about its actions helps to strengthen everyone's involvement and develop a true safety culture within the organization.

How to effectively raise employee awareness?

To make the CSSCT more visible and understandable, several concrete actions can be put in place.

It is recommended to hold regular information meetings to present the organization's mission, members, and activities. Internal communication also plays a key role: posters, intranet, newsletters, and HR materials can all be used to disseminate information in an accessible way.

Involving employees in prevention efforts is another effective lever. Awareness campaigns, particularly on musculoskeletal disorders or psychosocial risks, encourage their engagement.

Making the results visible is just as important. Highlighting concrete improvements, such as the adaptation of a workstation or corrective action following a report, strengthens the credibility of the approach.

Finally, more informal formats, such as workshops or discussions about prevention, can encourage dialogue and facilitate the understanding of these issues.

Why involve employees?

Health and safety at work are not solely the responsibility of management or staff representatives. They concern all employees.

Raising awareness of the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CSSCT) allows employees to understand the actions taken and to become active participants in prevention. This collective involvement fosters a climate of trust and sustainably improves working conditions.

A shared responsibility

Awareness-raising concerns all levels of the company. Members of the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CSSCT), staff representatives, managers, employees and management must collaborate to implement this approach.

Everyone has a role to play: reporting information, proposing solutions, applying preventive measures and contributing to the continuous improvement of working conditions.

When does the CSSCT intervene?

The CSSCT meets regularly, generally every quarter, but can also intervene on an ad hoc basis depending on the situation.

It is mobilized in particular in the event of a work accident, a report of harassment or inappropriate behavior, during changes in working conditions or in the face of the emergence of new risks.

It also supports the CSE in its consultations relating to health, safety and working conditions.

Tools for structuring the approach

The single document for assessing occupational risks (DUERP) is a central tool. It allows for the identification of risks, the structuring of prevention actions, and the raising of employee awareness of the concrete issues in their work environment.

Regularly updating and disseminating it within the company is essential to maintaining an effective approach.

Training, a key lever

To enhance the effectiveness of the CSSCT, training for its members is essential. It allows them to better understand the committee's responsibilities, acquire the necessary tools, and structure prevention efforts.

MD Conseil Formation offers training courses tailored to members of the CSE and the CSSCT, in order to support them in their missions and strengthen their impact within the company.

Developing a culture of prevention requires communication, the involvement of everyone, and skills development. By valuing the role of the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CSSCT), the company takes concrete action to improve safety, employee health, and the quality of social dialogue.
