The assessment of occupational risks to which employees are exposed and their recording in a document called the Single Risk Assessment Document (DUERP) is a legal requirement under the French Labor Code for all companies with at least one employee. This obligation therefore automatically applies to self-employed individuals and sole proprietorships. Failure to have this document is punishable by a fine imposed by the labor inspectorate. In the event of a serious workplace accident or a declaration of an occupational disease by an employee, the incompleteness of this document can lead to criminal prosecution of management for failing to meet its obligation to ensure safety and provide enhanced resources.
