Work organization: the key role of the Works Council in risk prevention

High mental workload, interpersonal tensions, lack of clarity in tasks… Work organization can have significant impacts on employee health. Often invisible at first, these dysfunctions can nevertheless lead to major consequences, both human and organizational.

In this context, the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) plays a crucial role in identifying these risks and taking action upstream.

The Works Council (CSE), a key player in the prevention of organizational risks

The Works Council (CSE) has several tools at its disposal to analyze the effects of work organization on employees. It can, in particular, study factors such as excessive working hours, workload overload, lack of autonomy, or poorly defined objectives.

It also has the ability to gather employee feedback, whether through direct exchanges, consultations, or individual alerts. This feedback allows for the rapid detection of risky situations.

Based on these findings, the CSE can propose improvement actions to the employer: reorganization of tasks, adjustment of schedules, clarification of responsibilities or better distribution of workloads.

In case of difficulty or lack of appropriate response, external actors such as the labor inspectorate may be called upon.

This is an issue that concerns all employees.

Work organization impacts all employees, regardless of their position. It encompasses the distribution of tasks, work rhythms, schedules, and the management of mental workload.

When these elements are poorly managed, they can lead to negative effects: stress, conflicts, disengagement, or even situations of harassment or burnout.

In larger companies, the health, safety and working conditions committee (CSSCT) complements the work of the CSE by further analyzing these issues.

An early intervention to limit the risks

One of the major roles of the CSE is to act preventively. It intervenes before situations deteriorate, by identifying early warning signs related to work organization.

This approach makes it possible to correct malfunctions at an early stage and avoid more serious consequences for employees and the company.

Training: a lever for effective action

Understanding the mechanisms related to organizational risks requires specific skills. Works council members must be able to analyze situations, engage in dialogue with management, and propose appropriate solutions.

MD Conseil Formation supports elected members of the Works Council (CSE) and the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CSSCT) through dedicated training programs.
